HBO Max to Axe 40 Titles This Week

Your favorite HBO Max originals may not be available to stream much longer.

Warner Bros. Discovery is cleaning house in an attempt to not only save money but also eliminate underperforming titles. HBO Max is cancelling 40 titles this week — including 20 original series.

HBO Max is currently paying licensing fees for these titles. Removing them from the streaming service eliminates the payments to their sister company Warner Bros. Television.

“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+,” the streamer said in a statement Wednesday. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”

Julia Potts creator of Summer Camp Island was taken aback by this cancellation. “We worked for five years to make 100 episodes of animation,” she said. “We worked late into the night, we let ourselves go, we were a family of hard working artists who wanted to make something beautiful, and HBO Max just pulled them all like we were nothing. Animation is not nothing!”
