There is something about period pieces.  HBO brings together Martin Scorsese & Mick Jagger for a drama set in the 70’s in New York.  This series explores the music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra.

This miniseries is from Stephen King’s novel of the same name and from JJ Abrams.  This is a Hulu’s original about a teacher who uses a wormhole in an attempt to prevent President Kennedy’s assassination. It stars James Franco as Jake Epping. It explores how time always wins in the end.

Top Pick: Chi-Raq

You’ve got to love Spike Lee and this film is Spike turned up to 120%.  This film is simply an adaptation of Lysistrada.  It had a very short theatrical run & it seemed like the only people talking about it were my Chi Town friends.  This was Amazon Studios original could find a niche as it comes home to Prime.

Our Pick: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

The original film changed the way American’s watched film, at least for a few month.  That’s right a film with subtitles did well in the US box office.  Lazy Americans actually reading while watching a film.  The action was amazing and the cinematographer was nothing short of beautiful.  This film introduced many to the wire-work that is a staple of Hong Kong cinema.  I think this film will do excellent numbers on Netflix.
