Game Set Match Williams

Serena Williams decimated sister Venus 6-4 6-3 but this 4th round match might be the most important match of their careers. This was the 26th meeting between the sisters with Serena now leading, 15-11. The most recent meeting between the sisters, a three-set victory by Venus in Montreal last summer, was simply amazing. For two hours they traded aces. Serena hit 19 aces alone. It has always been difficult for them to play each other. Venus and Serena Williams have won a combined 27 Grand Slam singles titles. They once played each other in four straight Grand Slam finals. Both sisters are older and maybe a step slower than the past. That being said Serena is still the #1 female tennis player in the world. Venus is only ranked #16, we say only like there are not 7.125 billion people on the planet.

What makes this match so important? Serena has won three straight major titles. If she wins Wimbledon, she would hold all four major titles at once in 2003. If Williams wins Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in September, she will be the first player to win a single-season Grand Slam, male or female, since Steffi Graf in 1988. This would be an amazing feat for one many consider the best tennis player ever.

Now let’s support her through the end of Wimbledon!!!
